Use our free online Wedding Budget Calculator to outline and manage your wedding costs. Planning a wedding is an exciting journey, but keeping track of venues, catering, outfits, rings, and photographers can quickly become overwhelming.

This wedding expense planner helps you distribute your budget among the primary categories based on typical industry percentages, and computes a monthly savings timeline so you know exactly when you will reach your funding goal.

How to Use the Wedding Budget Calculator

  1. Enter your overall financials: Input your target total wedding budget, your current wedding savings pool, and the amount you can set aside every month.
  2. Apply a template or adjust percentages: Select one of the preset templates (Standard, Intimate/Casual, or Luxury) to automatically allocate standard percentages, or customize the percentages for each category manually.
  3. Review the allocation summary: Click Calculate to see the estimated dollar spend per category, the total allocated budget, and the months required to reach your target.

Formula & Calculation Method

The budget allocation is computed by multiplying the total budget by the category percentage:

Category Allocation ($) = Total Budget × (Category Percentage ÷ 100) Total Allocated = Sum of all Category Allocations Remaining Budget = Total Budget - Total Allocated

The monthly savings timeline is calculated based on your saving gap and monthly contribution rate:

Saving Gap = Total Budget - Current Savings Months Required = ceiling(Saving Gap ÷ Monthly Savings)

Example Calculation

If you plan a wedding with a total budget of $30,000, have $10,000 in current savings, and save $1,000/month:

  • Venue & Catering (50%): $30,000 × 0.50 = $15,000
  • Photography (10%): $30,000 × 0.10 = $3,000
  • Attire & Beauty (8%): $30,000 × 0.08 = $2,400
  • Saving Gap: $30,000 - $10,000 = $20,000
  • Months Required to Save: $20,000 ÷ $1,000 = 20 months

What the Result Means

The Total Allocated amount tells you the total dollar cost of your selected percentage settings. **Remaining Budget** displays whether you have leftover money or if you have overcommitted funds. The **Months to Save** timeline tells you how long it will take to pay off the remaining wedding costs based on your current savings rate.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Forgetting local service taxes and tips: Caterers and venues often charge a 15% to 20% service fee or gratuity on top of their base rate. Ensure these are accounted for in your main budget or contingency buffer.
  • Ignoring hidden costs: Wedding dress alterations, marriage license fees, beauty trials, and postage for invitations are frequently missed items that add up quickly.
  • Allocating 100% of your funds early: Keep a solid contingency buffer of 8% to 10% unallocated to absorb surprise vendor changes or guest count increases.
